The Advocacy Incubator has experienced some amazing successes since its creation in June of 2017. The Incubator is comprised of eight passionate members who have developed and implemented a number of advocacy initiatives in the local community including peer support, marching in large awareness events, and presentations for community organizations including churches and schools. Incubator members deliver information about mental illness through both pamphlets, psychoeducational presentations and spoken word performances.
Incubator members also participated in training to become facilitators of CREATE Kenya’s psycho-social rehabilitation toolkit, enabling them to deliver this valuable information to more individuals living with serious mental illness. The project team has received ethics approval from Western University and is awaiting local ethics approval in order to further investigate the factors that have contributed to the success of the Advocacy Incubator.
