Global MINDS @ Western is an interdisciplinary initiative of Western University, Canada focused on innovating for low resource settings in low and middle income countries (LMIC) (e.g., East Africa region) and for marginalized communities within Canada.
Through annual Summer Institutes, Global MINDS @ Western brings together Western University students and students from LMIC to form solution-focused teams to tackle a local mental health system challenge.
The first Summer Institute took place in Machakos, Kenya from May 21- June 3, 2017, and the focus included developing solutions to leverage CREATE, such as:
- How to continue building mental health awareness and addressing stigma and social exclusion for people with serious mental illness in the community?
- How to maximize the social/health impact for people with serious mental illness now that CREATE is officially recognized as an work integration social enterprise employing people with disabilities?
Stay tuned for the proposed solutions to these challenges! And check out the video below to see highlights from the Summer Institute!
